Photos: New McCord Exhibit Puts Quilting on Display

The McCord Gallery and Cultural Center in Palos Park has a new exhibit on display.

Palos Park has a resident quilting expert and her work is front and center at the .

The work of Pat Mikrut, a Palos Park resident since 1977, is featured in the new exhibit Connected by Thread. Her work ranges from the whimsical to historical and is based on photographs of ancestors, both her own and purchased from other sources. Mikrut started her career as a painter and in 2000 began shifting her focus to quilts.

She has been featured in over 40 quilt shows.

On Friday, Oct. 21 a reception will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. On Saturday, Oct. 22 Mikrut will host a workshop on how to transform photographs into art quilts.

The exhibit will run until Nov. 18. The gallery is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
