Patch’s Guide to the 2013 Palos Heights Classic Car Event

Find out when and where you can see the array of classics, hot rods, and very rare cars dating back to the 1930s, as well as food and entertainment for the night.

There a few new attractions in store Thursday night for the Palos Heights Classic Car Event, compared to years past.

Among them are Concours-quality cars; rare and exceptionally kept automobiles that almost never are featured in such events, according to event co-chair Bob Strarzyk.

“These are cars from the 1930s through the 1960s,” Strarzyk said. “These cars are usually behind glass, but on Thursday people will be able to see them up close.”

Among the rare finds will be a 1935 Packard, Buick convertibles from the middle 1950s, 1966 Chevrolet Chevelles that have been built into muscle cars and an exceptionally rare Cord Beverly.

“Some of these cars cost anywhere between $100,000 and $300,000,” Strarzyk said.

The Classic Car Event is a 100 percent volunteer-run effort to help fund the Palos Heights Beautification Committee.

“Not a penny goes anywhere but right back into Palos Heights,” Strarzyk said.

At 8:30 p.m., a raffle will be drawn for five different prizes:

  • 1969 Cougar convertible
  • $2,000
  • $1,000
  • $500
  • $250
