Fun Fair, Animals and Irish Food: Grab & Go Kids Planner

Our weekly rundown of great local activities for Palos families.

Where/When: Saturday, March 5 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m at Independence Junior High, 6610 W Highland Drive in Palos Heights.

Why Go: A great chance to have fun with your fellow neighbors the District 128's Fun Fair will feature games, raffles and a reptile show.

Pricing: There is no admission fee, but small fees for games and the reptile show.

Where/When: Saturday, March 5 at 11 a.m., Palos Park Public Library, 12330 S Forest Glen Blvd in Palos Park.

Why Go: The grand finale of the library's winter reading program, families will have the chance to learn about and meet various exotic animals including a hedgehog, lynx and alligator.

WORLD OF WHEELS

Where/When: Runs Friday to Sunday at Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont. Show hours are 3-10 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.

Why Go: Custom car show sponsored by South Oak Dodge in Matteson, featuring hot rods, custom cars, trucks and motorcycles, and appearances by Billy the Exterminator, Sammi Sweetheart from “Jersey Shores” and Jennette McCurdy from “iCarly.”

Pricing: $17 for adults, $5 for kids 6-12 and free under 6 (discount tickets are available at O’Reilly Parts Stores in Oak Forest, South Chicago Heights, Merrionette Park, Bridgeview, Calumet City, Harvey and  Joliet).

ST. PATTY’S MARDI GRAS

Where/When: Gaelic Park 6119 W. 147th St, Oak Forest, from 6 p.m. to midnight Saturday, March 5.

Why Go: A traditional St Patrick’s Day Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner just in time for Mardi Gras. Live entertainment features Jack and Jill and the Band of Brothers Pipes and Drums. Cash bar, raffles and door prizes. Kid friendly. Sponsored by the Country Club Hills Firefighters Union.

Pricing: $15 for adults, children free with paying adult.

 MANHATTAN IRISH FEST

Where/When: Manhattan Park District Recreation Center, 395 State St. Hours are 5:30-10 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday. Mass is at 9 a.m. Saturday. Parade steps off at 11 a.m.

Why Go: Celebrate Irish heritage with music, games, sports, dancing, mass and a parade. Cash bar.

Pricing: $7 until March 3, $10 at the door, children 7 and under are free.
