Palos Park Teen Sings at Cellular Field for Second Time This Summer

Alexia Chibucos is a local, talented musician and singer.

Performing for a crowd at a professional baseball stadium is a special event for any young singer. Doing it twice in one summer is something else altogether.

Alexia Chibucos sang God Bless America at the White Sox game in U.S. Cellular Field on Sunday. The 14-year-old also .

"I wasn't really that nervous. I could only see the people in front of me. I couldn't see all the people (in the stadium) surrounding me," Alexia said. "It seemed like there were a lot of people but I couldn't see that many people."

The diehard Sox fans in the Chibucos family jumped at the chance for Alexia to audition. She submitted an audition tape, produced with the help of her band teacher last school year, of her singing the National Anthem and was offered the chance to sing earlier in the spring. After a scheduling change, they settled on May 27. But, as it turned out, she wouldn't also get the chance to sing God Bless American as well. She had to make a new audition tape to perform that song.

The White Sox booked Alexia for Aug. 26 to go along with the White Sox's Kids Day promotion.

Alexia started singing in her Greek Orthodox church's choir when she was five years old. Her musical aptitude isn't just limited to the vocal; she started to play the violin when she was just three years old and picked up the piano after turning six. It was in church where Alexia first got used to singing in front of people.

"It usually comes pretty naturally for me," Alexia said.

Alexia also performed in musicals for her middle school and is auditioning for a high school play.

The family originally had researched how to become a batboy for the White Sox when they came across the opportunity to sing.

"We're big Sox fans," said her mother Caryn Chibucos.
