Palos Cub Scouts Offer a Helping Hand

Boy scouts were hard at work cleaning up around the Palos area.

Cub Scout Pack 3699 members volunteered their time last Sunday at Palos Oak Hills Cemetery on the Southeast corner of 131st and Southwest Highway.  Parents cut down small trees, including the sharp and invasive Buckthorn (Rhamnus cathartica), and the kids carried them off.

All agreed that it was a good Earth Day event and pledged to do it again, as it fit in with the scouts pledge to “do our best” for the community.  Last month Pack 3699 continued its commitment to keep clean its adopted area at by picking up garbage. 

On Sunday, May 6, Pack 3699 will make the Presentation of Colors at the Arbor Day Celebration at Palos Park’s .

Cub Scouts Pack 3699 includes boys from first through fifth grade from the area. Boys who register this spring can participate in Cub Scout events over the summer. Pack activities this summer include Scout Day at a White Sox game in June, a pool party in July, and a fishing derby in August.

On a related note, the Village of Palos Park’s Beautification Committee will have its annual Rid Litter day this Saturday, April 28.  All are welcome to meet in front of the building at 9 a.m. for gloves and bags.  High school students that need community service hours can use this event to meet some of those graduation requirements.
