Next Community Meeting about Palos Heights Rec Center Set for June 3

The meeting will be held Tuesday, June 3 at the Palos Heights Recreation Center, 6601 W. 127th St.

Residents with questions or concerns about a proposed $6.3 million overhaul to the Palos Heights Recreation Center are invited to another community outreach meeting this week.

Officials will host the next public input session Tuesday, June 3 from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Rec Center, 6601 W. 127th St.

The city's Parks and Recreation Committee is counting on public outreach and community meetings with consultant George K. Baum & Company, to keep residents in the loop during the planning process for the revamped recreation center at 6601 W. 127th St. A future referendum will ask residents to support the project.

Renovations would include a multipurpose/banquet room with an instructional kitchen in place of the current gym, space for a teen center, a pre-school area and multi-purpose community rooms and extra parking. The new recreation space, located adjacent to the existing building, will include a multipurpose gym, locker rooms and restrooms on the lower level. On the upper level, there would be a three-lane walking/jogging track, a wellness center with exercise equipment and a lounge.

Palos Heights District 128 would donate 1.5 acres of district property for the project. In return, the city agreed to tweak school park property nearby, adding a walking track, improving the school district's soccer field and addition of one new baseball and softball field at a cost of up to $180,000, Chicago Tribune reports.

A taxpayer with a home valued at $100,000 would see an impact of roughly $30.20 each year, according to documents.
