Heights Pool to Stay Open 5 More Days

The Palos Heights Pool will stay open an additional 5 days this summer.

While it may be difficult to start thinking of days spent poolside, it's not to early for the to get in a summer state of mind.

At last Tuesday's Parks and Recreation Committee meeting, it was decided the will stay open an additional 5 days this summer.

In past years the pool closed the last week in August. This summer the pool will be open for two additional weekends, allowing swimmers the chance to use the pool during Labor Day weekend.

"Once you have the renovations, and taking into account the season we had last year it makes sense," said Mike Leonard, director of parks and recreation.

Last year the pool was given a face-lift that included adding a new water slide, liner, filtration system and cosmetic enhancements.

The renovations coupled with exceptionally good weather led to that could be used to off-set some of the renovation costs.

Aldermen Jeff Prestinario and Jack Clifford approved of the plan.

In order to recoup the operations costs associated with keeping the pool open the additional days, admissions prices will be raised.

Membership rates will increase slightly and non-member children's day admissions fees will go up $1.

While Clifford and Prestinario were hopeful that the pool would be just as financially successful this year, weather plays a large factor.

"You are dependent on the weather," Leonard said. "We had the most perfect pool season last year."

This article was changed to reflect that the pool will be open until Labor Day weekend, not Memorial Day. We regret the error.
