Palos Doctor presents community lecture ‘Tendonitis and Synovitis in the Hand and Wrist’

Gary Kronen, M.D., an orthopaedic surgeon with MidAmerica Hand to Shoulder Clinic, will discuss painful conditions of the hand and wrist as part of an educational program at Advocate Christ Hospital.

Gary Kronen, M.D., a hand and upper extremity specialist and orthopaedic surgeon with MidAmerica Orthopaedics and MidAmerica Hand to Shoulder Clinic, will discuss painful conditions of the hand and wrist as part of an educational program from 6 - 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, at Advocate Christ Hospital, 4400 W. 95th St., Oak Lawn. Held in Room 0629, the program is free and open to the public.

Tendonitis is an inflammation or irritation of a tendon, a cord-like structure that connects muscles to bones. When a tendon in the wrist is inflamed, loss of mobility can occur. This condition is caused by repetitive overuse of the joint, direct trauma, in conjunction with other conditions and injuries, or it can be caused by rheumatoid arthritis.

Wrist synovitis is the inflammation of the synovial membrane lining the joints in the wrist. It often coincides with carpal tunnel syndrome or in the form of a Ganglion cyst. This condition, too, is often found in patients suffering from rheumatoid arthritis.

Dr. Kronen will discuss such topics as:

•    symptoms, diagnosis and treatment options for hand and wrist conditions
•    trigger finger, also known as stenosing tenosynovitis
•    the painful wrist condition De Quervain’s tenosynovitis
•    inflammatory causes such as rheumatoid arthritis
•    traumatic causes such as repetitive activity
