What’s Happening on National Hot Dog Day?

Palos Park is celebrating National Hot Dog Day by grilling a huge batch of dogs on the Village Green Tuesday night. Also get a dog at the Orland Park and Palos Heights 7-Eleven stores by downloading their smartphone app.

Famed world food sampler Anthony Bourdain once said that every country has some variation of “meat in tube form” they call their own.

Since the 1800s, and even after Upton Sinclair wrote “The Jungle,” we still have an affinity for our pinkish red hot dogs.

Celebrate our own meat in tube form Tuesday 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the Village Green at 89th Avenue and McCarthy Road (or inside the Recreation Center if it rains).

Grab a hot dog off the grill (or better yet, let someone with tongs get the dog for you) for 50 cents. Chips and soda will be available for the picnic-style event, and live music from Blu’ Willie T. and Da Midnite Lovers.

For those in a rush, download 7-Eleven’s smartphone app, and show the coupon in-store at the two Orland Park locations, or the two Palos Heights stores, to get a free Big Bite hot dog Tuesday.
