Adopt Me
By Dan Lambert, Lorraine Swanson, and Renita YoungAbout this column:
Column featuring animals for adoption from local humane society.A dynamic duo of black, domestic short-hair cats is staying at PAWS Animal Shelter in Tinley Park. They are originally from Mokena and were dropped off after the previous owner could no longer afford to keep them. The shelter volunteers are hoping that Grayster (who has a layer of white fur below a layer of black hair) and Zolton can be adopted out together. The brother cats came in together and should leave together. The cats are declawed in all four paws and should be kept as indoor cats. The pair also are litter box trained. Neither are aggressive and will do well with other cats. Zolton …
Samson is a tought dog to pin down. No, he's not feisty; he's just a stray from Tinley Park and not much is known about his background. The great volunteers at PAWS Animal Shelter in Tinley Park said the two-year-old dog is a Terrier mix but he certainly looks like he could pass for another breed of dog. He is definitely peppy enough to be a Terrier. Samson has energy to spare but isn't wild or frantic in any way. Toss him a ball and you'll quickly make a new best friend. A family that wants a playful dog will find Samson to be a good fit. If you're interested, contact PAWS at 815-464-7298 or…
Binny is sporting his summer look now. The good people at PAWS Animal Shelter in Tinley Park gave the 4-year-old Bichon mix a haircut recently. He came in resembling a giant cotton ball, according to pictures in his file. Binny was picked up from a high-kill shelter and is looking for a new home. Most smaller dogs you'll come across are highly energetic. Binny follows a much more laid back way of life. He is friendly, adventurous and enjoys the company of people. The one hiccup is that he still needs to be housebroken. A new owner will have to help Binny adjust to living indoors. If you're …
Maddi would like nothing better than to sit next to you. This 8-year-old domestic shorthair has been at PAWS Animal Shelter in Tinley Park since the end of July. It's hard to see why anyone would want to give up this sweet creature. Maddie is missing the tips of his ears. Volunteers believe she suffered a bit of frostbite at some point. Maddi just loves to be constantly around people. She loves everyone she meets at the shelter and is an extremely easy-going pet. Ernie is another sort altogether. This 1-year-old domestic shorthair is full of energy. The volunteers said Ernie is a climber and …
It's tough to see how Shadow could have gone un-adopted for the nearly at year. She's such an energetic and fun dog. According to her trainer at PAWS Animal Shelter in Tinley Park, Shadow is equally happy running around and sitting on the couch. Shadow also is learning quite a few tricks, including how to sit, heel and come when called. She's good with other dogs so, if you already have some, Shadow should fit in fine. She just tends to stay by herself when around other dogs. Ideally, Shadow would fit in a home that doesn't have young kids and with someone who would continue her training. If …
Max was born at the Animal Welfare League of Chicago Ridge on December 3. His mother and seven of his eight siblings have already found homes. The three-month-old American Staffordshire mix will grow to be about 70 pounds, said Cory Berndt of the Animal Welfare League. The playful puppy is curious, but gentle and friendly. Max and his almost identical brother are available at the Animal Welfare League of Chicago Ridge. The most recent Adopt Me stars, Brewster, Bubba and Beef have all been adopted.
Brewster is an eight-month-old cat that has been living in a shelter for the last three months. Brewster's owners had to give him up after they could no longer care for him. The black and white cat loves to cuddle and would make a great addition to any family. You can find Brewster and many other loving pets at the Animal Welfare League in Chicago Ridge.
Meet Bubba the 11-month-old American bulldog, American Staffordshire mix. Bubba has been available for adoption from the Animal Welfare League of Chicago Ridge for about 2 weeks. Bubba is extremely energetic and curious. He was rescued from a dog fight a few months ago. He gets along well with other animals and is ready to find a perfect home.
Meet Reese, a gorgeous year-and-a-half-old calico cat now available for adoption at the Animal Welfare League in Chicago Ridge. Reese's friends at the Animal Welfare League say she is a sweet, mellow cat who is looking for a couch to cuddle up on in a forever home. Reese's owners had to give her up because of a family member's allergies. If you're interested in adopting Reese or one of the many other pets available for adoption, contact the Animal Welfare League in Chicago Ridge at 708-636-8586 or visit the organization's website. Adoption fees for cats are $73 and include spaying/neutering, …
Meet Beef, a 5-year-old, male boxer who was brought into the Animal Welfare League as a stray on Dec. 31. Beef is a big boy. He'd do well in a home with a large yard where he can romp and play. Beef has a lot of energy. He's well socialized, and gets along well with other dogs and children. Sometimes Beef can be a little exuberant, so he'd do well in a home with children age 10 or older. (He might knock down smaller kids because he's so playful and doesn't know his own strength.) Beef is also a blood donor. He's saved at least one life since he came to the Animal Welfare League. He's …
Meet Scooby, a 3-year-old German Shepherd/ Labrador Retriever mix looking for a home. ID # A054471 Scooby is an active dog who loves to play. He came into the Animal Welfare League of Chicago Ridge about a month ago. Scooby is very loveable, but was given up by his owners because he was a little too active for a home with a small child. Cory Berndt at the Animal Welfare League of Chicago Ridge said she'd suggest Scooby go to a home with children no younger than 10-years-old. Scooby listens well and gets along well with other dogs. All he needs is a little training. He is up-to-date on his …
Meet Punky, a five-year-old West Highland Terrier mix looking for a place to live. Punky is an active pooch who loves to play. He came into the Animal Welfare League of Chicago Ridge three months ago as a stray. Volunteers said Punky is sweet and easy to get along with. He is up-to-date on his shots, partially trained and microchipped, but will be neutered before adoption. Adopt Me is a weekly video feature highlighting one of the pets available for adoption at the Animal Welfare League of Chicago Ridge. To find out more about any of these pets, call the shelter at 708-636-8586 or visit www…
Meet Onyx, a four-year-old domestic shorthair cat who's looking for a place to live. She has short, black fur and a long tail. Onyx has been at the Animal Welfare League of Chicago Ridge since the end of October. She came in as a stray with an infected back leg that eventually had to be amputated. "She's a trooper," said a volunteer. Onyx gets a little nervous around other animals, but loves cuddling and walking on the shoulders of humans. She is up-to-date on her shots, microchipped, but will be spayed before adoption. Adopt Me is a weekly video feature highlighting one of the pets …
