This Week's Pet: A Black Cat That Might be Lucky
Meet Herman, a calm and affectionate cat up for adoption at PAWS Animal Shelter in Tinley Park. He'd be a warm addition to the home.
Herman is a 2-year-old Domestic Shorthair cat in need of a home.
Don't be fooled by the black fur. This guy is gentle and appreciates being petted. He was found as a stray in Tinley Park and has been living at PAWS Animal Shelter since Dec. 13. He has been neutered and still has his claws.
Staff at PAWS describe him as a sweet boy.

Pets with new homes
Felix, a tabby that was featured Dec. 4, was recently adopted. Other success stories include Millie, a lovable pointer mix, and Patches the cat. Rosie and Lily, a pair of adorable Dachshunds, have also found owners.

People like reading about and seeing pets. Your articles on animals that need homes are so important in finding adopters who will love and care for dogs and cats in need. P.A.W.S. of Tinley Park is doing a great job in helping the animals.

I adopted a cat from PAWS in Aug and it died 6 wks later...it apparently was sick when I got her so beware

Moonglow - you could have paid top dollar from a pet store and purchased a mill pet that could have died 6 weeks later. Yes, animals do get sick. It's unfortunate that kennel cough can be spread from one animal to another, but please do not post anything that would discourage anyone from giving an animal a forever home.
The best suggestion is to have a vet look over the animal in the first week of adoption. If you are not going to continue taking your pet to the vet services at the shelter then bring them to your local vet you do plan on using. The earlier the better. A healthy pet is a happy pet.

i did take the cat to the vet suggested by paws 3 days after i adopted her. it was a minmal check up. the cat was at paws for more than a yr. it broke my heart to put her down.
