Posing As Construction Workers, Men Steal From Elderly Palos Hills Couple
An elderly couple were the recent victims of a ruse burglary.
Posing as construction workers two men pushed their way into an elderly Palos Hills couple's home and made off with cash and valuables.
On Nov. 3, a man arrived at the door of a home on the 10400 block of Sheffield and stated that he was a construction worker and needed to check the home's water pressure, police said. The couple did not give permission for the man to enter, so he pushed his way into the home.
Once inside, the man went downstairs with the couple so that he could check the water pressure of the home, police said. The trio were downstairs for about 15 minutes when the male homeowner went back upstairs after hearing noises.
The elderly man found a second intruder in his kitchen. One intruder told the other, "Hasta la vista" and they both left, police said.
Jewelry, a coin collection, tokens and $900 in cash were taken from two bedrooms in the home, police said.
Police descirbe the men as possibly Hispanic. One of the men was wearing a light gray hooded sweatshirt and was about 6 feet tall. The second was about 5 feet 7 inches tall and wore a dark colored hooded sweatshirt, police said. Both men wore sunglasses and told the homeowners that they allowed them to see the dye in the water better.
