Palos Heights Pool Makes a Big Splash over the Summer

This is the last weekend the community pool will be open for the summer.

An “extraordinarily” large number of people joined the Palos Heights Pool in a summer that saw exceptional figures.

Ten days of operation this summer recorded more than 700 people at the pool, according to figures provided by the City of Palos Heights. The pool beat all revenue goals in both admissions and concessions.

“I believe this is one of the longest stretches we went without a closed day,” said Joe Smith of Palos Heights' Parks and Recreation Department. “Those first two months (of the season) were incredible.”

Smith said "memberships are extraordinarily high this year."

This is the final weekend the pool will be open for the summer. Operating hours are noon to 5 on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, weather permitting.

Good weather early in the summer is credited with the successful season, Smith said. August extreme heat kept attendance a little low. Last Saturday, more than 500 people visited the pool when temperatures hit the low 90s.

Palos Heights Pool originally opened in 1972 and went through a major renovation a few years ago after a community-based effort worked to reopen it.
