Every Easter, Thankgiving and Christmas, Palos Township holds major distributions through their Food Pantry to those in need of meals for themselves or their families. This year was no different.
On December 15, the food pantry gave out food to more than 75 families from towns within their borders, which include Palos Heights, Palos Hills, Palos Park, Hickory Hills, Worth, Willow Springs and parts of Orland Park. Cash donations also allowed them to give out $1,600 worth of gift cards from local grocery stores this month as well as $1,500 for Thanksgiving.
Local businesses, residents, schools and organizations are the main contributors to the food pantry. Township supervisor Colleen Grant-Schumann said that Palos West elementary school donated more than 6,000 canned goods to the pantry through their annual "Soup-er Bowl Sunday" food drive back in February, and that many of the 14 senior citizen clubs within the township hold food drives annually as well.
The food pantry is always willing to take food or cash donations. Please contact the township office at (708) 598-4418 to request a list of needed items or choose from some of the items listed below or stop in anytime to drop off donations Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
