Charges Double for Driver in Deadly Crash Near Palos Hills

Prosecutors have brought more aggravated DUI charges against Sam Cafi, 28.

A Justice man pleaded not guilty this week to more than 100 charges of aggravated DUI in connection to a fatal crash near Palos Hills in March, officials confirmed Thursday.

Court records show that the most recent case against Sam Cafi, 28, had 61 felony charges of aggravated DUI and one count of reckless homicide for the March 10 crash that killed 28-year-old Ryan Osowski of Darien and injured three others.

At a hearing Wednesday in Judge John Hynes' Bridgeview courtroom, prosecutor Debbie Lawler announced that Cafi would be re-indicted on new charges. The new case has 132 counts total, including the one count of reckless homicide, court records show.

Lawler said Cafi's $1 million bond would be transferred to the new case. Cafi posted $100,000 bail in April and appeared in court Wednesday in a black suit and tie with his attorney Mike Gillespie. Gillespie was not immediately available for comment after the hearing.

Cafi is scheduled to be back in court on Sept. 12.
