New Breakfast Restaurant Set for Pancake Factory Building

Owners have applied for a liquor license and, this week, asked city officials about selling homemade jams inside the 127th Street building.

A new brunch spot is in the works for the former Mr. G's Pancake Factory location.

Owners of the tentatively named "Mama’s Boy Café" plan to open at the 127th Street and Harlem Avenue location by Christmas. Their restaurant will serve breakfast, lunch and alcohol, on the approval of a liquor license set to come before the Palos Heights' City Council for approval in December.

Owners plan to use locally sourced produce in their food, said Marisa Kolman, community development coordinator with the City of Palos Heights. Ownership also approached the city this week to see if any issues would come from selling homemade jams.

The building is currently undergoing a facelift on the inside.

"They’re completely remodeling the interior, floors, tables, seats," Kolman said. "They’re expanding the bar at the front and makng it nicer, sitting area.”

The owners, who didn't return a voicemail Tuesday, have previous experience in family-run restaurants.

Mr. G's closed in July. After its closing, another party was in the process of buying the lease on the property when that deal fell through.

There's already a Mama's Boy Cafe serving Breakfast and Lunch an hour and a half north of Harlem in an area where a lot of New Yorkers go on weekends. Plus there's one in Georgia and a pizza place in NY or NJ.

The name is tentative. I have doubts that it will be called that down the road.

I kinda like Mama's Boy Cafe myself. Of course, I'm a mama's boy.

Another breakfast only place? The previous owner tried that but with two other breakfast/lunch places within a mile.....it didn't work.

What we really need is a good family casual dinner place.

Gutsy opening less than a mile from Lumes in competition for breakfast business! I'd rather see something we don't already have. A Panera or a micro-brewery would be great!

This is unbelievably stupid even for Palos Heights. Let us know when Mama's Boy is up and running so we can stop in and have a Bloody Mary and some homemade jam and say goodbye.

I hope it works out. I'm happy that the restaurant won't be sitting empty for years like the former Bakers Square has.

It's true, we really don't need another breakfast place in Palos. I agree with Howell, a micro-brewery would be great, or even a place similar to Tribes Alehouse. Craft beers and great food is something Palos needs. You have to venture to the city or Orland/Tinley for good beers and food these days.
