Is an All-Season Ice Rink in the Cards for Palos Heights?
Would you use an ice-skating rink?
A few Palos Heights aldermen are pondering a synthetic ice rink for Community Park.
Relatively low cost and maintenance requirements and portability make bringing an all-season rink to Palos Heights an appealing prospect to some alderman, The Regional reports. Alderman Mike McGrogan recently touted the possibility:
“It’s pretty amazing,” McGrogan said. “Alderman Clifford and I and some others have said for a long time ‘wouldn’t it be nice to have some kind of rink for the kids.’ It’s hard to believe but it’s like 4-by-8 sheets that are like plywood and glossed. You can use regular skates on them and it looks just like a rink that is maintained with water and pipes … like if you went to the United Center.
Others all-season rinks in the Chicago area can be found in South Barrington, Highland Park and Roselle, according to the report.
Does a local rink appeal to you? Would you use it? Tell us in the comments.

I can't believe that I was driving past the Rizza vacant lot
last night and told my daughter that would be a good spot to put a ice skating rink like Millenium Park. I wake up this
morning and see this! What a coincidence!
My daughter thought that would be a good spot for a year round ferris wheel.
I'm all for bringing in new ideas to Palos Heights!

Sounds like a fun place for kids and families right in town. Would be even better if there's a way to offer ice skating in the winter and roller skating/blading in the warmer months.

I would love to see a skating rink in Palos Heights. Why don't they put it on that new piece of land they purchased where they have the farmers market. It might bring some local business to the downtown area.

I should have said Southwest Ice Rink in Crestwood. I mean come on really and there is a rink in Orland Park too. They all have public skate times. It's not that hard to get to these places either.
