Criminal Investigation into City Official Could Conclude Soon, Police Say

James Dougherty has been put on leave from his position with the City of Palos Heights, officials said.

Palos Heights police said an investigation into Building Commissioner James Dougherty could soon come to an end.

Deputy Chief Dave Delaney said he could not comment about specifics on the “ongoing criminal investigation” into the City of Palos Heights official.

Dougherty has been placed on administrative leave after unspecified allegations of misconduct surfaced, officials said. Palos Heights officials have declined to discuss what led to Dougherty being put on leave.

Last week, Mayor Bob Straz said Friday that Dougherty has until this week to ask for a hearing regarding an “internal personnel matter.”

Dougherty's leave was the result of City action and not related to any criminal investigation.

Delaney said they are looking into the matter.
