Elderly Couple Targeted by Ruse Burglars in Hickory Hills
Police are searching for two men who tried to lie their way into the couple's home.
Police are searching for two men involved in a Hickory Hills ruse burglary on Friday that targeted an elderly couple.
The burglars are described as white males. One is a 5-foot, 8-inch, heavy-set man with bad teeth who was wearing dark clothes, a reflective vest and a tool belt. The other man had his face covered.
They were last seen leaving the area in a white minivan. The elderly couple lives near 94th Street and 77th Avenue in Hickory Hills.
The heavy-set man walked up to the couple's door and claimed their neighbor had a basement water leak, police said. He also told them he worked for Public Works before trying to lead the couple to the back of their house.
One of the victims then saw the second, masked man enter the house. Both burglars fled when he threatened to call police.
Police say this ruse burglary is similar to others that have hit the area recently.
Earlier last week, the Cook County Sheriff's office announced the arrest of Sonny Miller, 43, of Oak Lawn, who is accused of a ruse burglary in unincorporated Palos Park.
Miller wore a white hard hat and carried a tan shoulder bag with a fluorescent stripe during the alleged ruse, police said.
