Palos Park Honors Police Officers and Firefighters at Parade and Cook Off

The Village of Palos Park will host its annual Parade and Chili Cook-off on Saturday, September 17.  This year’s patriotic event will recognize firefighters and police officers in remembrance of the 10th anniversary of the September 11th.

The event will begin at 11:00 a.m. with a parade down McCarthy Road, with local firefighters and police officers serving as honorary Grand Marshalls.  At 12:15, there will be a 9/11 remembrance with the Police Department and Fire District, a bagpiper, and the Stagg Choir, followed by a Flag Etiquette and Flag Folding Demonstration.

The  following Police Department and Fire District events will take place throughout the day:

Fire Protection District Activities on the Village Green

Public Education Tent, 12-6pm

1:15  Vehicle Extrication, Fire Suppression, Victim Removal

2:30 Children’s Relay (Smoke Detector)

3:00 Dive Drill Demonstration

3:45 Fire Extinquisher Demonstration

Police Department

Public Education Tent and Activities on the Village Green,

1-6pm

Speed Pitch Radar Gun

Fingerprinting

Try on a Bullet Proof Vest

Children’s Fit Test Obstacle Course

The Fire and Police events will culminate with a Firefighters vs. Police Officers basketball shooting competition at 4:30pm. 

In addition, a Split the Pot raffle will be offered throughout the day ($1 per ticket , or $5 for 6) with proceeds benefitting the Palos Park Police Foundation and Palos Fire Protection District.  The winner will be announced at 6 p.m.

The event will continue on the Village Green, 12-7pm, with a variety of food vendors, chili tasting, and the following entertainment: the Stagg Chargerettes, the Jim Nesci Reptile Show, demonstrations from Stage Door Dance and T-USA Martial Arts, and music from The Average Joe Band (5-7pm). 

Children’s Activities include: Inflatable Obstacle Course and Jump, Children’s Farm from The Center, Pony Rides from Fitzjoy Farm,  Face Painting, and Children’s Game Area sponsored by Hackney’s.
